Here We Go

Blog entry #1 of the initiative that we are calling Fish for Hope.

Trained and experienced in aquaculture, I am intent on applying those skills and knowledge in poverty alleviation. Travel to Congo and Mozambique (accompanied by my wife) in 2008 have fueled this desire and I am still stirred by memories of those visits, the people that I met, and the work we can do.

Out of the trip to Mozambique has emerged a relationship with Global Partners (Missions arm of the Wesleyan Church) and the National Institute for the Development of Aquaculture (INAQUA) in Mozambique. Through this partnership we intend to construct six ponds on a Bible college-owned garden site. These ponds will be stocked with tilapia and integrated with the irrigation system of the gardens. But I'm not going to delve into the details of the project. On this blog, you can find links to a couple of recent news items and documents that will give more insight into the project. Feel free to pass this information on.

I am so very thankful for the many supporters who have already caught the vision for the impacts that aquaculture can have through Canadian donors and volunteers. My family (immediate and extended) has delivered immense help and guidance, as well as much-valued affirmation. Nonetheless, we are still in need of individuals and businesses willing to contribute financially to this exciting project.

So here I am, embarked on an exciting journey of what I perceive to be God's design for my life. Some people may be asking the 'why' question. I simply feel compelled. I can't explain it other than I am passionate about aquaculture and about living a life pleasing to God. In His service....
